RESEARCH STUDIES

Here are some of our research studies

Baby

Baby Formula & Health

Sometimes a mother is unable to or chooses not to breastfeed. In such cases, infant formula is the best alternative. Good nutrition is vital for healthy growth and development for an infant during the first years in life. Danone Nutricia Research has developed a new infant formula. A study will be conducted to investigate the growth and health of infants who drink this formula versus a standard, commercially available infant formula. You will be asked to bring your infant to the clinic on several occasions to monitor his/her growth and health. You will also be asked to complete a diary of your infant’s daily activities, including feeding and bowel movements.

WHAT IS A CLINICAL TRIAL?

Clinical trials are an element of clinical research and are at the heart of all medical advances. Clinical research is medical research that involves people like you and me. Clinical trials look at new ways to prevent, detect, or treat diseases. Treatments could include new medications, baby formulas, combinations of new medications, new devices or surgical procedures, or new ways to use existing treatments. The goal of clinical trials is to ensure treatment and/or new tests work and are safe. Clinical trials can also examine the quality of life and methods to improve the treatment of certain chronic conditions.

What We Do

Our research clinic recruits and provides financial compensation to participants or volunteers in clinical trials.  Clinical trials are designed to evaluate both the safety and effectiveness of investigational drugs or products in people.  All studies are supervised by medical professionals.

Why Participate

New medications benefit people every day.  If you take medications or have in the past, then you have benefited from clinical trials.  Before medication can be sold or marketed, it must be approved by the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) generally meeting the criteria of safety and effectiveness in humans.  Even if you do not take medications, you know someone who does, and volunteers are needed to advance medicines, infant formula, devices, or vaccines so people who need them most can benefit or obtain them.  Additionally, insurance coverage is not required, and participants will receive compensation.

Next Steps

Give us a call or text.  We will discuss your medical history and provide study details including but not limited to the purpose, number of visits, inclusion and exclusion criteria, and your compensation.  If you meet the qualifications, you will then come to our clinic, and we will further discuss the study details, potential risks, and benefits, answer your questions, complete informed consent (your permission to start the study) and receive a complimentary medical exam.  Participation is always voluntary and may be withdrawn at any time during the study.

  • Who participates in a clinical trial and why?
Participants in clinical trials span all races, creeds, and economic and social statuses. People participate in clinical trials for various reasons. Healthy volunteers often participate with the goal to help others and contributing to moving science forward. People with an illness or disease also participate with a goal to help others, but also to possibly receive the most recent treatment options and to obtain additional care and attention from the clinical trial staff. Clinical trials offer hope for many people and a chance to help researchers and better treatments for others in the future. However, minorities account for approximately ten percent of clinical trials participation.
  • How does the research process work?
The clinical trial often starts with an idea. Then, proceed to the lab where researchers test new treatments or procedures in the lab and in animals in some cases. If the treatment shows promise, it transitions into a clinical trial. After the new treatment transitions into a clinical trial, a series of phases are introduced where more information about safety and effectiveness is obtained.
  • What are the BENEFITS and RISKS of a clinical study?
Clinical trials involve risk as with routine medical care and daily living activities. When considering the risks, ask yourself two questions: 1. What is the chance of harm occurring? 2. What is the level of harm that can result from my participation? Our research team describes risks and benefits in great detail prior to beginning the clinical trial. The potential benefits of participation in clinical trials include being an active participant in your health, access to new advances in treatments before they are available to the general public, additional medical attention from a team of doctors and nurse practitioners, and helping others with your participation in medical research. All clinical trials are different, therefore call our research team for more information
